#1 Northern Pines

#1 Tee

The first hole at Northern Pines is a slight dogleg left Par 4. As you can see, this hole is lined by mounds with tall native grasses. This will be the norm for the first 10 holes of Northern Pines. Accurate drives are key to scoring on this course. On this hole, a drive to the left center of the fairway will set you up with a slight downhill approach to a large green with a bunker protecting the front right.

#2 Par 4

#2 Tee

The 2nd hole is a longer dogleg left Par 4. This hole is a little more open than the first. A good drive will be on the right side of the fairway. The fairway bunker on the right is reachable from the tee. If you get down to the corner, you will have a straight shot into the green avoiding the bunker on the left side of the green.

# 3 Par 4

The 3rd hole is another Par 4, this time, a dogleg right. As you can see, you will be teeing off over a pond. A good drive here will be down the right side There are no bunkers near the green but there is a swale in front so make sure to use enough club to get to the green on your approach.

The first Par 3 at Northern Pines is #4. This green has bunkers on both sides and a pond in back. A south wind can make this a tough hole.

#5 Par 5

Hole 5 is a straightaway Par 5. A drive too far right will find a pond, but after that, the only trouble are the mounds along both sides of the fairway. As you approach the green, there are bunkers on both sides.

#6 Par 3

Number 6 is a long Par 3. Protected by bunkers on both sides of the green, the key to this hole is to use enough club to get to the green. A wind out of the north makes this hole a beast.

# 7 Par 4

7 tee
#7 Tee

Hole 7 is a fun Par 4. A good drive down the left side will keep you away from all of the bunkers on the right. It will also help your approach if the pin is on the right side of the green. There are 3 bunkers on the front right of the green which make for a difficult chip to a right pin.

#8 Par 5

The 8th hole is another straightaway Par 5. There are bunkers down the right side of the hole and a deep swale with tall grass on the left. It is best to be on the left side of the fairway for your approach to a green that has 3 bunkers on the right front.

#9 Par 4

#9 Tee

Number 9 is a slight dogleg right Par 4. A good drive here is just to the left of the fairway bunker on the right. This will set up an approach that will avoid the 2 bunkers on the left front of the green.

#10 Northern Pines Par 5

10 tee
#10 Tee

The back nine starts out with a long straightaway Par 5. The trouble on this hole is the mounding and tall grasses along both sides of the fairway. It can seem a little narrow off of the tee. As you approach the green, the left center of the fairway will give you the best shot to avoid the bunkers on both sides of the green.

#11 Par 4

The 11th hole is a straightaway Par 4. A good drive is down the left side of the fairway. On your approach, don’t miss the green short right or you will find a deep grass bunker.

#12 Par 4

#12 Tee

Number 12 is a good downhill Par 4. The key to this hole is your drive. If you can land your drive just to the right of the 150 stake, you will have a good look at your downhill approach. There are 2 traps at the front of the green. The hole drops off sharply to the right of the green towards the Stillwater River.

#13 Par 3

Number 13 is an uphill Par 3 with bunkers on the left of the green. Missing left is where the trouble is on this hole.

#14 Par 4

14 tee
#14 Tee

Arguably the best looking hole at Northern Pines is #14. Your tee shot is over the river to a fairway that is protected by 3 bunkers on the right side. If you cut the corner and play down the right side, you take the chance of bunkers or tree trouble. The smart play is just left of the fairway bunkers. Your approach will be to an elevated green with a bunker on the right front.

#15 Par 4

#15 Tee

Another long dogleg right Par 4, a good drive is to the corner on the right side of the fairway. A miss right will put you in a deep swale filled with tall grass. As long as you hit the fairway, you will have an easy approach to this green that has no sand around it.

15 green

#16 Par 3

16 tee
#16 Tee

The 16th is a Par 3 that is surrounded by a pond. There is a small bunker on the right side of the green, but the big trouble on this hole is the water on the right and behind the green.

#17 Par 5

17 tee
#17 Tee

Playing up and out of the river bottom, 17 is an uphill Par 5. Try to play down the left side of the fairway to avoid the bunkers on the right side of the green. The green is tucked into some mounding so a miss long can be trouble. There is OB down the left side of the fairway.

#18 Northern Pines Par 4

18 tee
#18 Tee

The finishing hole at Northern Pines is a long Par 4. As long as you can keep your drive down the middle, you will have a good approach shot to a large green with no sand around it. The big trouble here are the mounds down the left side.

Northern Pines Golf Course Conditions & Review

Northern Pines is a fun and challenging course to play. It has bentgrass fairways that are in good shape and provide tight lies. There are a lot of native areas on the front nine that can be difficult to avoid for higher handicap players and the greens roll fairly fast compared to other courses in the valley. It is not as crowded as some courses so it is much more accessible in mid-summer. If you are looking for a good challenge, this is your course.

Northern Pines Golf Club Real Estate

Northern Pines has a small residential neighborhood that is located around a couple of holes on the back nine. The homes are all very nice and most of them have great views of the golf course and surrounding mountains. There is not much turnover in this neighborhood. Over the past 3 years, there have only been 5 sales. Those home sales ranged in price from $609,000 up to a sale of $900,000. Because of the low turnover and proximity to Kalispell, there is high demand for homes at Northern Pines.
